Greetings to all new readers!  Welcome back returning friends!
Now for AOL users - your links are at bottom!
==========================================================

1) Peeking thru WINDOWS  "Less Fonts, More Speed"

Speed up the time it takes for Windows to load, and decrease
memory and file resources required in many Windows
applications, by simply reducing the number of fonts
installed on your computer!  The more fonts installed in
Windows, the slower Windows and many applications start,
because these programs read the entire font list at startup.
In addition, certain dialog boxes (such as the Font dialog box
or the Insert Symbol dialog box) take longer to appear
the first time in a session with a large number of fonts
installed in a system.

You can uninstall fonts, yet still leave them on your
computer for future use, like this:

  I) Use Windows Explorer to create a folder that will
be used to store a copy of the font files.

II) Copy the fonts you want to remove from the
Windows\Fonts folder to the folder you created
      in step 1.

III) Click Start, Settings, Control Panel,
       then choose Fonts.

IV) Select the fonts you wish to uninstall, and delete.

Note: Standard fonts that should remain on your
computer are: Courier New, MS Serif, MS Sans Serif,
Times New Roman, Symbol, Wingdings, and their variations.

If you later decide to reinstall a font that you have
removed, you can install the font from the folder
containing the font file copies.

2) FANTASTIC FREE FEATURED FILE!  "OptOut" [33 Kb/EXE]

OptOut is an excellent program for detecting and
eliminating “spyware” on your computer.  Also includes
links to further privacy resources.

See this week's Hodgepodge section for info
on why you’ll want to download this week's featured file:
Takes only seconds to download

http://www.BasementNoises.com/free4u/optout.exe

PLEASE PARTICIPATE in this week's survey!
After you've run OptOut, take a moment to report
your results:

3) SEEN THESE SITES?  "Superbad / 5K Contest"

Only visit this week's sites if you're prepared
to become seriously absorbed and are ready to lose a
TREMENDOUS amount of time!

- Don't be misled by the site name - Superbad is supergood!
Each click bring a multitude of choices as you interactively
romp through a witty, brightly-colored (and slightly
twisted) online art gallery

http://www.superbad.com

- Our second site contains the results of a contest for web
designers.  It revolved around the constraints forced
on web masters they struggle to deliver optimal solutions
in a minimal space.

The single rule: "All HTML, script, image, style, and
any other associated files must collectively total less
than 5 KILOBYTES in size and be entirely self-contained"

The contestants: Over 1000!

The results: Simply astonishing!  Creating a banquet for the
senses with a minimalist approach, this site contains the
winners and is pure fun in tiny packages!  My favorite?
 - be sure to visit the Web's
Smallest Art Museum!

7) HODGEPODGE - "Parasites, Continued"

Last week I described a program I had intended to
recommend, then reconsidered, and eventually removed
from my system.  The name of the program is Go!Zilla,
by a company formerly named Aureate, now known as Radiate.

Aureate/Radiate and their file distribution partner BinaryBliss,
have made available over 400 free games and utility files to
the Internet community.  If you are unlucky enough to have
ever run one of their free programs, then you probably
have a copy of their "spyware" on your computer,
EVEN IF YOU UNINSTALLED THE ORIGINAL SOFTWARE.

Let's stop here for a sec: If you want to see if Aur/Rad's
"spyware" resides on your system, search your system
for "Advert.dll" (this is a key, but not only, piece of
Aur/Rad's software).  If you find Advert.dll, then Aur/Rad's
"spyware" may have been spying on YOU.

"Spyware" is ANY SOFTWARE that employs a user's
Internet connection, without their knowledge or explicit
permission, to collect personal information.  Aur/Rad's
software collects personal information about you and your
surfing habits, and then transmits that information back
to Aur/Rad, ALL WITHOUT your knowledge!

Though Aur/Rad claims their software is to be used in an
above-board manner, many apps that install the software
do so silently, and will not notify you at all.  The final result?
There's a decent chance you have software on your system
you don't know about, and that it may be communicating
some information about you or your system to others without
your knowledge or consent.

If the above concerns you, download and run this week's
file, "OptOut".  OptOut will check your computer for
Aur/Rad's parasites, and offer you an opportunity to clean your
computer.  If parasites ARE found, I recommend using the
Deep Scan button, then the Remove option.

Note however - if you remove these parasites,
the "host" software will probably die also - you'll lose the
ability to use that particular piece of software.

For a complete list of software that uses Aur/Rad
technology, see: http://www.infoforce.qc.ca/spyware/

If you care about your privacy, take 5 minutes and check
your computer today!  And let me know what you've found --
