1) Peeking thru WINDOWS "A Good
CAD!"
For many years, your last resort when confronted with
a unruly computer was to press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to reboot.
However, with Windows 98, this key sequence is your first
line of defense against misbehaving applications.
Under Win98, Ctrl-Alt-Delete opens the Close Program
dialog box. If you don't press
Ctrl-Alt-Delete again while the
Close Program dialog is open, you won't reboot.
Review the list of applications that appear in this dialog box.
Frequently, the program that is giving you problems will have
the phrase [Not Responding] following the name of the
program.
Select the delinquent program and click the End Task button.
Wait a bit; an End Task confirmation dialog box may or
may not come up, depending on the individual app. If it
does, simply confirm by clicking the End Task button in the
second window.
In many cases you can get Windows functioning to the point
where you can save information from other windows you might
have had open besides the problem application – though there
are times that even this doesn’t work and you must reboot
and lose everything not saved.
After you've saved everything you can, restart your system
as you normally would. Don't continue
working in Windows
longer than you absolutely have to after shutting down
programs using this method – there might be remnants of the
problem still installed that could aggravate further operations.

2) FANTASTIC FILE FIND!
"RBTray” [61 Kb/EXE]
RBTray is a straightforward utility that minimizes any
window to the System Tray as an alternative to a button
on the Taskbar. After installation,
simply right-click the
Minimize button to drop the window into the Tray!
Ideal for those windows you always leave open, such as
your email program or word processor.

3) SEEN THESE SITES? "Grab a
Billion/Make A Burger"
Win a
BILLION dollars? Be sure to read the
fine print,
(it will take 40 years to get the full amount, or take $170
million in cash) but this site gives you a shot at winning
a cool billion US dollars – no purchase required. Just
pick the right 7 of 77 possible numbers, be a resident
of the US/Canada/UK, and remember if you win -
you heard about it here first!

In case you aren't the billion dollar winner, you might
need to fall back on honest employment.

4) EMAIL FUNNIES "Snowman Construction Kit" [395 Kb/EXE]
Chilly days and chillier nights are becoming the norm in my
part of the world, and the scattered flakes of snow that
we've seen so far could soon become a deep blanket of
snowman construction material.
Until then, I'm practicing my building skills with this
week's email funny – Snowman3000.
Assemble your ideal
snow friend using the included parts, right down to the
(not politically correct) corncob pipe.
Save your new frozen
buddy and send to your friends when you're finished!

Email me your finished snowperson and I'll add them to the
upcoming Official Basement Holiday page!

5) The MOUS Hole - "Different Views and Font Replacing"
Undoubtedly the quickest way to switch between views when
working in PowerPoint is to use the following key combinations:
* ALT+1 for Normal View,
* ALT+2 for Outline View,
* ALT+3 for Slide View, and
* ALT+4 for Slide Sorter View.

do today what you can do tomorrow.
Something may
occur to make you regret your premature action” – Aaron Burr

7) HODGEPODGE
This week's Photo Funny has an off-road vehicle that got
a bit too far off the road; while the Bizarro feature
concerns a muscular mustache. See them
