         Happy Holidays to NFTB readers!

Welcome to NFTB's Holiday Edition 2000, Part Two –
deviating just a tad from the regular format this week and last.
I'm assuming that most readers have holiday plans that don't
include trying new Windows or Office tricks.  Next week I'll
return to what goes for normal around here.

This week, I have "Dave's Top 10" Sites of the Year for
your clicking pleasure.  These are my favorites of the
"Sites We've Seen" since Noises began, and are listed in
no particular order. If you weren't around when these were
first published, you're in for some treats! If you did
see these before, check 'em out again – many have updated
content since we last were there!

Plus, more Basement Noises scattered throughout this issue
– and AOL users, your links are at the newsletter end.

Enjoy!  And a Very Happy New Year to you all!

1) SEEN THESE SITES?  "The Year In Review"

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

What's Going On - an online guide to the best place to be
on Earth on any given day.  Tour book-like icons ("grandma
approved", "potential to lose blood", "do it before you die"
are just a few) and very literate and informative descriptions
of each festival, event and destination have put this site on
my "Daily Visit" list.

Mesmerizing.  This site draws you into a truly interactive
experience as you manipulate Lissajous figures.  What's a
Lissajous figure?  Visit this site and see!  The more you
experiment with the controls you'll find here, the more
captivated you'll become!

2000 has certainly been eventful here in The Basement.

Noises From The Basement started in March with a subscriber
base of 40 or so.  It was to be a way to stay in touch with
friends and graduated students.

Partly motivated by a desire to share those "hey, look at
this!" moments that I ran into while surfing the Net; it was
also going to be a means where I could help those who
choose to continue building their computer skills.

BasementNoises.com came online in May, with new Photo
Funny and Bizarro features.  <more>

We've all received those urgent emails with (sometimes)
plausible sounding, sincere warnings - usually accompanied
by a demands to be forwarded to every one we know.

Do your part to stamp out junk email - visit the Urban Legends
web site and use their database search feature to find out
the truth BEFORE you forward the next rumor you receive!

The Freeze-Dried Kooks Museum.  Whomever your favorite
flavor of kook, you'll find them lodged somewhere within the
virtual walls of this Museum.

A visit here will make you feel MUCH better about the person
in the next cubicle...

Have you ever wondered how the engine in your car works
or what makes the inside of your refrigerator cold? This
site has comprehensive yet concise descriptions of
the way things work.

Today's issue of NFTB is being delivered to over 1000
subscribers in 51 countries – growth almost entirely from
word-of-mouth, generous reviews, and the forwarding of
issues!  And for this I'm most grateful, Dear Readers!  <more>

Darwin Awards is dedicated to commemorating what remains of
individuals who contribute to the improvement of our gene pool
by removing themselves from it via some really stupid means.

Each month, this site features those who self-terminate, rarely
on purpose.  Let's be careful out there!

Bizarre Stuff is an assortment of the experiments some of
the more demented of us tried as young people. Collected
in one place, many of the science projects that you might have
attempted - or want to attempt now!

Fair warning, only visit if you've got some spare time to play!

Sodaconstructor puts YOU at the controls for animations of
two-dimensional models made out of masses and springs.
Many switches to turn and buzzers to ring, with the upshot
being you'll quickly become absorbed as your creations seem
to almost take on a life of their own!

Stay tuned for the New Year – I have some simply amazing
sites lined up for you!  Start out the New Year next week
with a "must-have" Fantastic File Find.  A couple of clever
toys and funny videos are coming up, too.

The Basement on The Web changes, too – I've already
added a new coat of paint to the Links pages, with more
remodeling on the drawing board.  If you haven't stopped
by lately, give it a visit:

There's another beautiful world most of us never see, hidden
within everyday objects.  At the Molecular Expressions Photo
Gallery you'll find hundreds of full color photomicrographs
(photographs taken through a microscope) that will leave you
breathless.  Be sure to visit the Silicon Zoo!

Are little green men from outer space creating works of art
in wheat and barley fields all over the world?  See gorgeous
photos of crop circles, including 2000's Best. And meet the
folks that make them!

2) THEY SAID IT

"Never give a party if you will be the most interesting
person there.”  -  Mickey Friedman

3) HODGEPODGE

NFTB encourages you to have a great time as you celebrate
the beginning of a new year, but urges you to stay in one
place to do it!  Remember, driving under the influence is
illegal everywhere in the world – and if you do, you just
might end up in the World's Smallest Police Station!  See it
as The Basement Photo Funny.  Then YOU choose the Bozo,
there are so many choices in this week's story, I couldn't
decide!

G'nite, and thanks for reading, and
Best Wishes for the New Year!
