1) Peeking thru WINDOWS - "Clear Documents\Flying Windows"
Want to clear out your recent Documents menu found off the
Start button?
Right-click a blank area on the Taskbar, choose Properties.
Select the Start Menu Programs tab, then click the Clear
button!
~ ~ ~
Do you have those little "flying Windows" keys on your
keyboard, nestled alongside the Ctrl and Alt keys? Ever
use them? Try these combinations:
Windows key + E opens the Explorer window,
Windows key + R opens the Run window, and
Windows key + M will minimize all open windows!

2) FANTASTIC FILE FIND! - "Word Web”
[4506 Kb/EXE]
A big deficiency of the MS Office Spell and Grammar
checking feature is that it *isn't* a dictionary – while you
might get a correct spelling, it's useless if you're looking
for a definition.
Word Web takes care of that problem by supplementing
Word with a new button that opens an excellent dictionary.
Simply select the word to look up and Word Web will search
its extensive 120,000-word database for possible definitions.
Also includes 100,000-word synonym sets, proper nouns, and
related words.
I've found Word Web so useful that I run this one from my
StartUp folder and keep it minimized in the System Tray for
immediate access! When browsing on the
Net or reading
newsletters those unknown words can be looked up in a jiffy!

3) SEEN THESE SITES? - "Male Pregnancy\Sacred Places"
Profane. Disturbing. Ridiculous.
Cutting edge. Art?
Here is the online record of Mr. Lee - the first pregnant
human male! Complete with an ultrasound
video and
current vitals, this site will definitely give you grounds
for thought.
Mr. Lee's pregnancy is the work of GenoChoice, which also
offers you (on their home page) the chance to "Create Your
Own Genetically Healthy Child Online!"
Yup, we're in the
21st Century now!

And now the sacred. Sacred Places is a
remarkable site
to spend some quality time. Sacred or holy places
are
found in all cultures, past and present, everywhere in the
world. Such places are frequently marked
by architectural
structures and art.
This website contains text and images which examine the
nature of the sacred. It also explores how art and architecture
serve to embody the sacredness and mystery of a physical
location.
You'll find beautiful photos and enlightened treatment of
those places mankind has held sacred over the course of
time – Stonehenge and Lourdes, Bodh Gaya
and the Holy
Sepulchre are only a few of those showcased here.
Not many of us will be able to see these sacred places in
person. Explore them online and experience
for yourself
the mystical hold these sacred places have had on humanity:

4) EMAIL FUNNIES - "Touch Wood" [1175 Kb/EXE]
A lucky Email Funny for the first in the new year -
Most of us have used the term "knock wood" or "touch
wood" before tapping a wooden object, as an attempt to
earn a bit of extra good luck in one of our ventures. The
problem in today's increasingly plastic and metal world
is that there are fewer and fewer wood objects in our
environment to knock!
Enter this week's EF to the rescue. Fire
up this desktop
goody and you'll have all the virtual wood you need – from
picture frames to end tables, fences to trees.
Lucky Yew!

5) The MOUS Hole - "File Protection II"
A few weeks back, I discussed protecting your Word
documents and Excel workbooks by requiring a password
before they could be opened. This week
we'll look at
protecting cells or ranges of cells in an Excel worksheet.
There are two distinct operations involved when protecting
cells in a worksheet: First, UNPROTECT cells where you want
to allow modifications, then PROTECT all the rest.
Unprotect
---------------
I) Select those cells that you want to
allow to be
changed - typically these are your
input or data cells;
II) Format |
Cells | Protection tab;
III) Deselect the Locked option.
(by default, *all* cells are
formatted locked)
Repeat the above steps for all cells or ranges that will
be changed, then "turn on" the protection:
Protect
---------------
I) Tools |
Protection | Protect Sheet;
II) Leave all options in this dialog box
selected, unless
you have a specific reason to
unprotect one. Enter
a password, if desired; click OK.
If you don't enter a password, the
worksheet will
still be protected, however
protection can be
turned off by anyone.
Remember, Excel passwords are
case-sensitive;
always store your passwords in a
safe location!
III) If you entered a password, you'll need to enter it
again to confirm it.
Your worksheet is now protected. The
only cells that may
be changed are those that you formatted as unprotected.
To turn off worksheet protection
---------------------------------------------
Tools |
Protection | Unprotect sheet | Enter password
