Hi! Glad you could
make it, old friends!
A special welcome to our new subscribers, many happy returns! |

1) Windows Tips -
"What's On The Menu?"
"I try every
one of your tips each week. I'll occasionally have trouble when
you say to 'right-click' to bring up a menu - the option you say
to choose is sometimes not there. I'll try it again and it
will be. Why isn't my 'right-click' menu the always the same as
yours?" - Dorothy W.
There are two
different types of menus that can be called when you
right-click. The determining factor which controls the one
you see is - Did you move your mouse when you right-clicked?
The other menu
you're getting comes from moving or dragging your mouse when you
click. The movement required to bring up this menu can be pretty
subtle, most people that have trouble don't even realize they've
moved their mouse!
The vast majority
of the time, you'll want to make sure NOT to move your mouse.
This will ensure the appropriate commands are available when
following a tip.
If you do
move your mouse when clicking, you'll always get a shortened
menu consisting of "Copy Here/Move Here/Create a Shortcut
Here" - which is great if you're trying to move or copy a
file. Not so great if you're looking for those other options,
though!
While this can be
annoying, no real damage is done. If you get the
"wrong" menu, tap your ESC key and try right-clicking
again. Remember, when you click (right or left), only a slight
pressure is required. Excess force on the button will usually
move the mouse, and result in the wrong menu. With a bit of
practice you'll get the correct menu every time!

File Find! - "Educational Favorites"
This week's File
Find just might keep you busy long past your bedtime tonight,
and for many nights in the future! Links to almost 600
education-related sites with free (or some free) content are
nicely packaged in a self-installing executable. Run this file
once and it will add these links to your Favorites folder (or
any folder you choose.) Sites are nicely categorized in a main
"Education" folder; groups include core courses such
as Math, English, Geography and Science. There's also
collections of links for Adult Ed, Home Schooling, GED,
Tutoring, and more. A great resource for parents, teachers, and
students: [106 Kb\EXE]

Sites-Seeing - "Index Librorum Liberorum\Visible
Earth"
John Walker is
the founder of Autodesk and co-author of AutoCAD. He also
maintains our first site of the week, entitled "Index
Librorum Liberorum" (both a parody and a pun, as you may
discover.) A visit here is a bit like exploring an old-time
candy store - there's an odd assortment of math and physics,
science fiction and Windows utilities, computer nostalgia and
humor. My favorite stop, however, is the Astronomy section,
where you'll find the Earth and Moon Viewer, explore the Solar
System "Live" over a 12,000-year period, and find even
more astronomy-related software for Windows and Unix.
While you
explore, you'll also find an explanation of why ".ch"
is the domain of Switzerland, just in case you wondered:

Spending some
time at the next site will help you put your problems in
perspective. In a somewhat similar vein as our first site,
"NASA's Visible Earth" presents simply awesome images
of our home planet - the typhoon Toraji ravishing Taiwan;
Greenwich - Where East meets West; and Prospecting from Space
are featured right now, but the gems are buried within.
This site deserves some exploration.
You'll might be
interested in the comprehensive satellite photos of countries,
or enjoy the Ice Floes, or Minerals, or Biosphere. There's so
much of our beautiful world to see!
Be sure to see
the Environmental Impact section in the Human Dimensions
category for some explicit proof of mankind's mark on Mother
Nature:

and round it goes - where it stops no one knows! An apt
description of this week's video Email Funny which chronicles a

MOUS Tips - "What's Up, Dock?"
All Microsoft
Office products have Toolbars that are typically docked at the
top of your screen, the Standard and Formatting Toolbars being
the most common. Other toolbars, such as the Drawing or
Picture Toolbars, may "pop up" on top of your work
area. These toolbars, called by menu or when you select an
object, will appear floating over your current project.
You can quickly
"put 'em in their place" with a double-click on the
toolbar's Title bar, which will snap it up to the top, under
your other toolbars!

Hodgepodge
This week's Photo
Funny is a rare collage of Michael Jackson photos. Check out the
many faces of Mike! Then, ODDS and ENDS has a driver that
got 3 tickets over 9 hours - all in the same stolen car! Plus,
assault with a deadly peanut butter sandwich, and a tale of a
downright nasty raccoon! All in The Basement this week:

G'nite, and
thanks for reading! |
